When it comes to India’s startup story, one would inevitably think of businesses like Flipkart, Myntra, BookMyShow, etc., that have brought about a paradigm shift in how businesses are run in India. There is one person, however, who seems to possess the Midas touch that has propelled these companies to greater heights consistently – including the historic $16 billion Flipkart-Walmart deal this year. The i5 Summit is pleased to have entrepreneur-turned venture capitalist Mr. Subrata Mitra from Accel Partners (India) as a speaker for this year’s edition.
Mr. Mitra holds a B. Tech in Computer Science & Engineering from IIT Kanpur. He completed his MS in Computer & Information Sciences from the University of Delaware, followed by a Ph. D in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Prior to joining Accel Partners in 2008, the ace investor worked at the prestigious T. J. Watson and Santa Teresa Labs at IBM, where he was a part of the software R&D groups. Post this stint, he founded Firewhite, Inc., which was acquired by Ubiquio, Inc. and later merged into Mobile Planet. He then went on to become the managing director of India operations at Tavant Technologies, Inc. Later, he co-founded the Erasmic Venture Fund, which was rebranded to be a part of Accel Partners.
Mr. Subrata Mitra enjoys great renown for having served on the boards of enterprises like Flipkart, Myntra, Perfint, and enStage. He features regularly on leading business news channels like ET Now, and is also frequently quoted and mentioned in entrepreneurship news. His extensive knowledge in various business areas like B2B, commerce, finance, healthcare, infrastructure and software-as-a-service (SaaS) makes him a much sought-after investor in the startup circles. With more than a decade of hands-on investment experience, Subrata Mitra occupies a prominent place in the Indian startup story.
